Writer's Workshop: 10 things blogging has taught me

Today over at Mama Kat's it's Writer's Workshop time! I've missed the past two so I'm ready to go on this one! :) The prompt I chose was:

List of 10 things blogging has taught you

1) I am much more bold, straightforward, and honest about my feeling when I'm typing them out vs. saying them to someone's face. Hiding behind a computer gives me a sense of being in control that I don't actually have in real life. (except I did learn how to successfully block someone from viewing my blog through their IP address. THAT felt SO good! Haha!)

2) Having "blog friends" is something I didn't expect when I first started blogging. I thought I would just start a blog and write because it would be an outlet for me. But now I've "met" some super cool and interesting people! It's been way more fun than I thought!

3) Comments are addicting.

4) Not having many followers is depressing. Each time I get a new one I get so excited!

5) I don't like posting a blog entry without pictures. It's like I don't think people will just read what I wrote, because it's just words (only because sometimes I do that to other blogs!). Pictures are much more fun!

6) Some days, I just don't have anything to say. I am in awe of those people who have something funny, interesting, witty and fun to post every single day.

7) I love giveaways. I've won one giveaway since I've been blogging, and it was so exciting! I'm going to do one once I reach 50 followers! (hint hint) *grin*

8) Blogging has probably improved my writing skills. Once I post an entry and read it (see how it looks, etc.) I go back and edit it a few times... add a word here, change a word there, re-write a sentence, etc. I enjoy writing, but I'm very particular about it, and I like it to be a certain way.

9) Bloggers have "cliques" just like people do in real life. When I first started my blog I found so many people through Kelly's Korner blog (who has like 8000 followers or something crazy). Then I found a bunch of people through Kelsey @ The Seattle Smith's. It's like the same type of people run in the same "blog circles" i.e.: singles, newlyweds, people with children, dog lovers, etc. Very interesting social experiment.

10) I'm glad I did it.

Now, head on over to Mama Kat's and start writing! :)

  3. Visiting from Mama Kat's, I completely agree about not having something to say everyday. I admire those who do and what they say is worthwhile to read.

  9. Comments ARE addictive!

Do I count as a follower if I've subscribed via RSS and not google friend connect? Can you even see when people do that? I can't on my blog, it makes me very sad :'(

I love give aways, too, and I soooo want to do one...but....I'm not sure WHAT to give away. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....must..keep...thinking... :-)

  10. Your list sounds like what my list would be...even down to the bloggers have cliques.

  11. Yup. The follower thing can get me down as well at times. Just blog for you.
That bit of advice came from a wise friend i know. And it works.
Keep writing cool and GREAT stuff and your follower # will jump up.
And it is NOT about the numbers It is about doing something you love, and watching yourself grow in the process.

  12. You are right- there are bloging clicks- I only started this in February but I have certainly noticed that some people are always at the same spots- but I suppose that's just like life in real terms ;-)I'm following you now- stop by my place when you can.

  13. Fun WW post! I totally agree with all of your Top 10 things, and I would add that it's super depressing when people stop following you. I've only had four (yes, I track :-)), but it's still sad! I've had a SUPER busy week with the new job and haven't been able to blog much, and last night I woke up at 3am from a nightmare where I lost like 17 followers one day because I wasn't blogging like "me" anymore! Hahah! Talk about some silly paranoia! Hope you're having a great Friday, Stephanie!

  16. It seems every blogger is surprised at how many friends they make through blogging. As far as posting every day, I try to on my main blog, except for the weekends. I pretty much have been able to do it, and when I don't I feel guilty. I know that's silly; there's no rule that says I have to post every day.

Visiting from Mama Kat's Writer's Workshop. I used the same prompt!
